"Waffle Johnson: FBI"
New Series by Malkiel Cabrera & Charles Elphick
"Waffle Johnson: FBI"- Double the Homicide - Malkiel Cabrera & Charles Elphick
Role:
Co-Creator, Director, Writer, Storyboard Artist, Voice Actor, Editor, Music Composer
Description:
Waffle Johnson has finally arrived on the internet. Waffle Johnson: FBI is an animated series created by myself and frequent collaborator, Charles Elphick. (Uncle Stan Here, 2016) The idea for the show came out of a script-writing class both Charles and I had attended in college where we sat next to each other and doodled a lot.
The show follows an eccentric, no-nonsense, renegade cop who goes by the name, Waffle Johnson. Along with his squeamish partner, Lewinski, the two go on misadventures trying to absolve their city of San Francrispo of crime. They fight mob bosses and low-level thugs, correct the lives of street orphans; and that's when they're not already fighting each other and the very department that assigns them their missions.

"Quest Buddies"
Pilot (Animatic) by Malkiel Cabrera & Joshua Maynard
"Quest Buddies" - Pilot (Animatic) - Malkiel Cabrera & Joshua Maynard
Role:
Director, Writer, Storyboard Artist, Voice Actor, Audio Producer, Editor, Music Composer
Description:
Quest Buddies is a concept for a kids show Joshua Maynard and I developed into a pilot animatic (complete with pitch package/story bible) for a possible series. We did it after discovering Nickelodeon and Disney were taking pilot ideas in the form of storyboarded content, which gave us all the incentive we needed to pull it off.
I created the show one night when inspired to develop as many kids show ideas as I could and flesh them out, to challenge myself as a writer. I had never written anything for kids before (even though I have my nephews and niece who love my work regardless) and knew that for this one I had to make it something special.
I was a very imaginative kid growing up, so that element really came into play when writing the show and coming up with the different character personalities. Joshua did a fantastic job of helping me balance the two art styles I wanted, with the crude style of the kids in real life contrasting with the amazing fantastical style of their imagination land. He helped a lot with the artwork of the show and he storyboarded about 85% of the whole thing (God bless his soul).
All in all, what I've learned from Quest Buddies is that so long as what you write has heart, your kids show (or any type of show for that matter) can never fail. Take away the heart, and you'll have a show kids and adults can't connect to. That's no good.

irregular show.mp4 - Parody (2016)
Role: Director, Writer, Animator, Storyboard Artist, Editor Description: Regular Show is an animated 11 minute sitcom by J.G. Quintel and is owned by Cartoon Network/Turner Broadcasting. The show went on for six years, before its eighth season was announced as its last. Due to the fact it was a part of the "children's animation renaissance" that revived the high quality of cartoons in 2010, I had to pay my respects to a huge inspiration of mine. I did so by parodying it. Rick and Morty in a "Flash"(2013) Role: Director, Writer, Animator, Storyboard Artist, Voice Actor, Audio Producer Description: Rick and Morty is an animated sci-fi comedy show aimed at adults, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. I animated this particular cartoon as a part of an assignment in my high school Comm. Tech class where I had to come up with something that would teach freshman how to animate. Rick and Morty premiered early December 2013 and two weeks after its premiere, I released this cartoon online- where it found its way to co-creator and voice of the two titular characters, Justin Roiland. He said some kind words and inspired me to keep it up. Community - La Biblioteca Rap Animated (2012) Role: Director, Animator, Storyboard Artist Description: I made this one for fun (As I am a HUGE fan of Dan Harmon's Community) and submitted it as an assignment in Fall 2012. My Comm. Tech teacher loved it. |

"Real Dads." #14SecondReunion (2016)
Role: Director, Writer, Animator, Storyboard Artist, Audio Producer, Voice Actor Description: As a part of Raindance Canada's #14SecondReunion contest, I produced this 14 second short about a strange estranged relationship between a father and son. Work Sucks. [SHORT] - T.V. Talk (2013)
& Work Sucks. [SCENE] - The Interview (2013) Role: Director, Writer, Animator, Storyboard Artist, Audio Producer Description: "Work Sucks" was an animated series I was working on from November 2012-April 2015 that never quite advanced past its initial short and its unfinished animated pilot. That is, until I pitched the show's concept and re-worked it into a live-action show, renaming it to be[FORECLOSURE]. (More info on the be[FORECLOSURE] page located under the "Live-Action" tab in the sidebar) The original short stars my good friend, Brandon Bulzak as the two main characters, Jon and Mikey. The scene from the abandoned pilot starred Brandon and Justin Cameron, who voiced the store's first boss, Randall. |

Malkiel Cabrera VS. The Future (2015)
Role: Director, Actor, Animator, Voice Actor, Storyboard Artist, Audio Producer, Editor Description: As a part of an assignment in my career development class, I whipped up this summary video that goes over my past, present and plans for the future in two days. While the animation (and acting for that matter) are rough- it got a positive reaction from my peers, my teacher and the internet! A Very Uncle Stan Christmas. The Hushu Holiday Spectacular! (2015) Role: Director, Writer, Editor, Stop motion Animator, Set Designer, Character Sculptor, Audio Production Description: "An Uncle Stan Christmas" was our very first holiday special, so we knew we had to hit every tradition we could. In the special, Stan goes on a quest to spread holiday cheer and awareness for his own holiday, Hushu. I decided early on that I wanted there to be a Rankin/Bass type of scene, honoring the specials we grew up with as kids. I whipped up a stop motion set and sculpted some figures out of play-doh and it made for one of the more favored scenes in the special. |
